Ordinary People Taking Action

Gratitude4/5/2018 It was years ago, and my email signature said “With gratitude” before my name. I received the feedback that it was not professional and that it should say “Thank you. Kind regards. Sincerely… I needed to use a more professional phase.” The person providing me with this feedback was senior to me, so I listened and changed my signature to “Thank you.” It felt generic, but I decided it wasn’t a fight worth fighting. My email signature today doesn’t have a salutation. I add what I think is most appropriate for the person and discussion within the email. I often sign “With gratitude” and I don’t think anyone, besides that one manager, has ever said anything negative about it. It’s genuine when I use it. I believe it’s important to show gratitude. Even if it’s just a simple email closing. Often, I express my gratitude with multiple sentences – written or verbal.
Today I wasn’t feeling motivated to write a blog post. I won’t lie, it is a lot of work writing daily posts. I have become super grateful for guest post Wednesdays and guest post Fridays. The guest posts provide two days a week that I don’t have to write. I am grateful for those who are helping me keep the blog going. As I was feeling super uninspired to write today and questioning why I am even writing a daily blog post (that self-talk is probably a topic of another post), my web designer and editor, Laura, sends me this email: “….You are SO appreciative always Amber. I love that. You’ve actually taught me something about expressing that more. I sometimes think grateful thoughts, but forget to say it…” And, there was my inspiration for a post: a simple reminder of the importance of showing gratitude.
