Advice for graduating high school students ...

6/8/2018

Picture
You might recall, earlier this week I put a note on social media, Facebook and LinkedIn, asking for advice for graduating high school students. For those who left advice, they were entered into a drawing to win a FREE student coaching engagement from me.

The student coaching engagement consists of three sessions. The first session focuses on reviewing a personality assessment that will explore personal preferences, strengths, ideal environment, communication strategies and blind spots. The second session goes through a process of identifying potential majors and career matches. The third session brings everything together with a final summary that includes tips for writing college admission essays, cover letters, resume and preparing for internships and first jobs. The entire engagement is customized to meet the specific needs of the student.

Before I announce the winner, I want to share the advice received.
Ashely Hite
“If you feel like you don’t have all the answers for what you want to do or where you want to be, that’s okay. You don’t need to have all the answers right now.

Giuli Williams
“Being well rounded is great. Having a high GPA is great, but being involved outside academics, whether it be sports, clubs, etc teaches you a lot of things – from team working, time management, leadership – being well rounded is something employers look for.”

Jenna Powers
“Follow your heart, you will spend too much of your life working to be in a career path your parents chose for you, if it’s not where your heart is. Follow your heart, do what excites you; and you’ll get where you need to be in the end.”

Marychris Melli
‘Know your comfort zone. Then make a point to get out of it often.”

Jeff Olin
“Enjoy these moments. Time goes by so quickly and sometimes it is hard to appreciate the moment you’re in because you’re looking at the next. Think ahead, plan your future, but enjoy the moment. Think. Plan. Enjoy. Repeat.”

Sherri Brown
“Ask questions. Questions about different career paths, different degrees, etc. I know it’s cliché, but let’s say the old saying together: There is no such thing as a stupid question. Asking questions shows eagerness, shows willingness and shows a person who is hunting for success.”

Jeff Halstrom

“Don’t live your life to work, work to live the life you want.”

Donna Hoagland Wagner

“It’s okay to not to be sure what’s next. It seems kids are so pressured to know what they want to do/be at 18 – have a plan but be okay with making changes to it without feeling like you failed.

After writing each person’s name on a piece of paper and then my daughter and I drawing a name …. I am pleased to announce the winner of the free student coaching engagement.

And the winner is …..

JEFF HALSTROM

Congratulations, Jeff!

You can decide to use the coaching engagement package on one of your own children between the ages of 16-24 or donate it to a student to you choose.
